Understanding DVD Replication
Unlike DVD duplication – which uses pre-made DVDs and use a production method similar to burning DVDs using your DVD writer – DVD replication stats with the production of the DVDs from raw material. The process is very suitable for large quantity productions, and in this part we are going to discuss the general steps of DVD replication.
When the replication of digital discs is started, a glass master is produced from the master DVD you supply. This glass master will then act as a mold for making DVDs; it is critical that the glass master is absolutely perfect to avoid mistakes and faulty discs later in the production process.
After the master is created, it will then be inserted into the production machine. The raw material – an advanced blend of polycarbonate and aluminium, along with other substances – it then inserted into the machine; it is melted and pressed using the glass master as a mold. Since the mold already has the contents – the surface structure and other important information – added to it, the result of this process is readable DVDs.
The DVDs are then finished according to your requests. Offset printing is usually used to add labels on top of each DVD, while covers and boxes are produced separately.
