AI isn't replacing your dedicated webmaster anytime soon
Over the past few months, there’s been a lot of chatter about AI replacing web design. The theory goes that tools can throw together a landing page in seconds, so no one needs a designer anymore.
After years of building and managing websites for small businesses and professional firms, I see a very different reality.
AI site builders can output standard pages, but they miss the core elements required to build a effective site from scratch and keep it converting over time.
Thoughtful new site builds: Building a new website isn't just about putting elements on a screen. It takes strategic planning to map user journeys, organize content logically, and tailor the design to your brand's goals before launch day.
Ongoing management: Once a site is live, small businesses and professional firms need constant updates like staff bio changes, new insights, practice updates, and feature additions. AI doesn't manage or support a site post-launch.
Accessibility and usability: Making sure your site is easy to navigate and accessible for all users requires intentional design and testing from the ground up. AI site generators frequently output code that creates usability barriers, opening businesses to user frustration and legal risks.
Strategic advice: A template doesn't know your business goals. Fine-tuning copy, optimizing calls to action, and refining site architecture require human strategy.
AI will certainly capture the quick and cheap template market for temporary landing pages. But for serious service-based businesses, a website isn't just a static page. It's a digital property that needs clear strategy during the initial build and a dedicated partner to keep it accurate, accessible, and working long after launch.
